Summary

Adoption / Withdrawal timeline: Indiana originally adopted Common Core in 2010. In March 2014, Governor Mike Pence signed legislation making Indiana the first state to withdraw from the Common Core State Standards after formerly adopting them in full. On April 28,Indiana State Board of Education voted 10-1 to endorse new benchmark standards for Mathematics and English, which were created by a group of faculty from Indiana universities and leaders in the science and technology field. On May 5, the Indiana DOE released a draft of the new standards, which were quickly finalized.

Numbering: Indiana’s current numbering is very similar to that of Common Core State Standards. While it is not exactly the same, the numbering has a pattern relationship.
